If you are the type of person that can visualize then you are a step ahead of the rest of us. This is for the people that have a real difficult time visualizing thing in their mind. I struggled with this myself until I started using NLP techniques. And I am really happy to able to visualize better now.
This is a step by step method to help you visualize to the best to your ability. The real truth is that everybody visualizes. If you think about your first car, you will form a picture in your mind. You will see the color, size, and shape as a picture in your mind.
The first thing you need to let go of the limiting belief that you cannot visualize. You need to be in the right state of mind and to not be distracted by you other senses. So, find a quiet place that you can be in a comfortable position, and temperature.
Clearing your mind is the next step, we can only process so many bits of information at one time. So, we need to push out the other senses. It is like daydreaming, that is visualization. Can you remember when last time you went into a daydream state. I want you to go back into that state and remember the feeling of relaxation that is completely covering your body. This is the right state to be in.
To strengthen your visualization skills these are a few tips that could help you, even if you are good at it.
This step by step program is what I used to help me. It is a progressive method.
Step 1. Let’s start with the easiest thing to visualize: imagine nothing - a totally blank image. Total blackness, you can cover your eyes to help you achieve this if you need to. You need to practice this until you can do this without any distractions for ten minutes. And don’t worry about it if you start out fine and then a random thought come into your mind and you start thinking about it instead. Then start again. The idea is to hold that image for the whole ten minutes. You will want to do this step completely before moving on to the next step. That could take awhile to get to the point that you can do this; it might take a week, two weeks, or even a month or more. Keep working at it until you can go the full ten minutes.
Step 2. The next step is to hold the image of whiteness in your minds eye for ten minutes. A pure sheet of white that envelopes the whole mind’s eye. When you can do that for ten minutes you are ready to move to the next step.
Step 3. See that complete whiteness in your minds eye with a black dot in the middle of it. Just a black dot and nothing else for the whole ten minutes. This too can take some time to master.
Step 4. The next step is to make the dot into a circle that is hollow in the center., so now it is a black circle on a sheet of white. Now keep that there in your minds eye for the ten minutes.
Step 5. Start to change the shape of the circle into the shape of an apple. A simple black line drawing of an apple. So now it is a white background with a black outline of an apple. And hold that in your mind for the whole ten minutes.
Step 6. Now that you can do all this for the time, it is time to color the apple. So now we have a black outline of a red apple on a white sheet.
Step 7. Add shading to the inside of the apple and give it some depth.
Step 8. The next goal is to hold that image and to give it a 3-D appearance. It will look like an actual apple floating on the white background. Now that you have come this far you can start to add details to the apple, the little imperfections on the skin of the apple.
The final step once you can hold this image in your minds eye for ten minutes is to now have the apple on the white background floating in front of you and have it start to rotate so you can see all sides and shape of the apple. You want to see all the details of the apple.
Now I know this all might seem daunting or even unachievable. But it is with a bit of time and patience. With the effort it requires to achieve this, you might be asking why should I bother?
The more you can visualize, the more you can see what you want or need to achieve. Visualization helps you see your goals in your minds eye and help turn them into reality. So by starting small with just 10 minutes a day, not only will you work on centering and grounding yourself more effectively, but you will learn to SEE what you want to achieve… bringing it one step closer to you.
